Our Philosophy
One Degree Forward is Focused on Directly improving the lives of villagers in rural Cambodia
Canadians Helping Cambodians
We create the opportunity for Canadians to make a difference for people who truly need it.
Focusing our time, skills, and funding on impactful poverty reduction and education programs.
We work with local Cambodian donees selecting projects that have lasting impacts.
Cambodians Helping Themselves
One Degree Forward works in conjunction with the New Bridge Foundation to maximize and accelerate its vision for improving village life.
The New Bridge Foundation was established through the sheer force of will of some very determined villagers with a desire to improve the lives of the next generation of children living in their community. Through their own hard-won education, they saw that their goals of clean water and improved schooling were within reach if they rolled up their sleeves and laid the groundwork themselves.
Their story is Cambodia’s story. They have a determined spirit and want to build a path for others to follow. No big organization; no offices; no Range Rovers; just mopeds and a desire to build better lives for their people.
Every Dollar
Counts
One Degree Forward’s charity model is designed to be cost effective and impactful. Our goal is for a minimum of 95% of all funds raised to go directly to helping Cambodians.
Through engagement with local donees we are able to eliminate intermediaries from the process. All internal work at One Degree Forward is done on a pro bono basis.
We focus on manageable, scaled projects with evolving initiatives based on feedback. Our agility allows us to serve people where they need it most.
Cambodians Helping Themselves
We are building a charity that helps people help themselves.
Working directly with select villages in Cambodia, we are able to see the continual impact of our work.
Focused Local Efforts
Samrong Village
Samrong is located in a rural area about an hour north of Siem Reap. Most families have basic employment income which is often supplemented with home-based agricultural efforts.
Together we completed the initial building of Sarong School in 2020 and has recently completed an expansion of 3 new classroom.
We support teaching of 220 students ages 4-14 in Basic English, hygiene and agriculture and we are now initiating broader programs to enhance economic potential for them in the future
Villager support through water supply from new wells, water filters and community water stations, agricultural , visioncare and sewing programs have enhanced village life in ways we could barely have imagined 5 years ago.
Krov Village
Krov is a small village on the outskirts of Siem Reap in north-central Cambodia. It is a poor village that initially housed an HIV hospice for families and later became home to a spectrum of displaced people.
Originally home to 40 families, there is a high percentage of children who were orphaned and adopted by local villagers.
The initial school built in 2018 had 60 students .Krov has been expanded twice and now teaches about 110 students
Basic life skills as well as rudimentary English. The school also provides an extensive meal program for students and a food lifeline for impoverished elders who live near the school
Village programs include water supplies ,vision care and a recently initiated orchard project on the school property.
